Course Description

The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher is a focused 2-day training programme designed for qualified first aiders who need to renew their existing First Aid at Work certification.

This course is suitable for those working in medium- and high-risk environments, including construction, manufacturing, engineering, hospitality, transport, education settings, and leisure facilities such as gyms, leisure centres, sports clubs, swimming pools, and activity venues.

Over two days, learners revisit and refresh essential practical skills and underpinning knowledge required to confidently assess and manage a wide range of workplace injuries and medical emergencies. The course reinforces best practice, updates learners in line with current guidelines, and ensures continued compliance with Health & Safety Executive (HSE) requirements.

Successful completion renews the First Aid at Work certificate for a further three years.

Assessment & Certification

Assessment includes:

Practical demonstrations – CPR, AED use, casualty management, injury treatment
Scenario-based assessment – responding to accidents and medical conditions
Written or multiple-choice assessment – confirming underpinning knowledge
Continuous trainer observation throughout practical tasks

Successful learners receive a Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate, valid for 3 years. A 2-day FAW Requalification course is required before the certificate expires. Annual refreshers are recommended.

Entry Requirements

Learners must hold a valid (or recently expired*) First Aid at Work (FAW) certificate to enrol on this refresher course.
Participants must be physically able to perform CPR and complete practical assessment activities.
Minimum age: 16 years.
Suitable for individuals renewing their role as a designated workplace first aider in medium- or high-risk environments, including leisure facilities and sports settings.

*If the certificate has significantly lapsed, the full 3-day First Aid at Work course may be required.
