Introduction
The Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing aims to provide learners with the knowledge and skills that are needed to plan, deliver and supervise safe but effective exercise programmes within a gym or health club environment.
During the qualification learners will cover:
- Anatomy, physiology and nutrition and how they relate to exercise and fitness.
- Health and safety in the fitness environment.
- The skills to conduct client and group inductions in a gym-based environment and support exercise adherence and a healthy lifestyle.
- The skills to plan, instruct and supervise safe and effective exercise and physical activity sessions.
- Professionalism for fitness instructing.

As part of the course is delivered online, all learners will need a stable internet connection and access to a PC, laptop, or tablet with a working webcam.

Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for anyone who has a basic understanding of Health & Fitness, has some experience in a gym environment and wants to further their knowledge and possibly work in the Health, Fitness & Wellness Industry.
How do I learn?
- Learn at your own pace online from the comfort of your home
- You will receive all the materials you require to study at your own pace using your E Learning Materials.
- Additional resources will be made available through Instructor led You Tube content
- Live Tutor Webinars will be made available throughout the course, to check in with students, answer questions, check knowledge transfer and focus on any areas of learning that you need further support with.
- Anatomy and Physiology Theory Exams will take place online at a time that is convenient for you.
- Practical teaching days will be scheduled, allowing you to learn firsthand in person from your Tutor and get hands on with the equipment in the Gym environment under supervision.
- Practical assessment dates will be set locally and periodically allowing you to work towards assessment dates and commit to assessment when you feel you are ready.
- Although we encourage in person practical days attendance and in person live tutor assessment, you can also record and submit all stages by video for assessment if this works better for you.
- There are no hidden fees or charges for resits of exams or assessments, we work with you to ensure you pass successfully.

A deposit is required before the course starts to secure your enrolment and access to learning materials. All remaining payments must be completed before the course is finished to ensure your qualification can be awarded. Full payment can also be made online at checkout.

Once course materials have been sent and opened, we are unable to issue a refund. If you are paying in installments, you are still required to make full payment in accordance with this refund policy. How You’ll Be Assessed
Throughout the course, you’ll be assessed through a mix of written tasks and ongoing practical evaluations. Final assessments are usually held about two weeks after the course ends and include the following:
Theory Assessment (Online)
You’ll complete a multiple-choice exam online, covering key topics such as anatomy, physiology, and fitness.
A specific exam date will be scheduled for your course.
Practical Assessment
During the course, you’ll be observed delivering exercises in small groups to demonstrate your practical skills.
You’ll also take part in a final practical assessment day, where you’ll:

Deliver a structured session based on a programme you’ve designed

Safely introduce a client to different pieces of equipment

Reflect on and evaluate the session afterwards
*Please note: Completion of the practical exam does not mean you have passed the course. You must successfully complete and pass all coursework, and your certificate must be officially issued before your qualification is considered complete.
Entry Requirements
Some experience with gym-based exercises, including free weights, is strongly recommended.
This course involves physical activity, so a reasonable level of fitness is important.
Learners should also have basic communication skills, as the course includes elements of discussion, presentation, reading, and writing.
What can I do after completing my Level 2 in Gym Instructing

What are my employability options with a Level 2 Gym Instructing qualification?
Often it is thought that you need to be a Personal Trainer to get a foot in the door in the Health & Fitness Industry, however the Gym Instructor L2 is a perfect platform for applying for roles such as Fitness Instructor, Health & Fitness Advisor and Gym Instructor. These roles usually all require a minimum L2 qualification and employers at times will then invest in your continued development once recruited, to ensure you align to their overarching objectives.
